Chapter 29

Vic

“What’s all of this?”

“This is what I’d like to call a romantic evening for my baby,” I said and pulled out Brianna’s chair.

“Vic, you didn’t have to go through all of this trouble.”

“I did. You’ve been busting your ass at work. I’m getting drive-by pussy and emailed kisses, so tonight I wanted to spend some real time with my fiancée.”

“Awww, baby, this is so nice.”

I poured her a glass of wine and took a seat. Since my plans to go and tap Tamar’s ass were rudely interrupted by her little sister Lana, I decided to pick up Brianna’s favorite Italian cuisine and spend a romantic evening with her.

“That is not my favorite fettuccini?”

“It is,” I said and piled her plate. I grabbed the grater and gave her fresh parmesan.

“Vic, baby, this is so nice. I mean, I had a day from hell and then you come with this lovely meal. I’m outdone.”

“Wait until dessert.”

“Ohhhh, tiramisu.”

“Say I’m the man.”

She smiled. “Baby, you are the man.”

I reached over into the chair on the right side of me and gave her a bag from the Gucci store.

“Gifts? Gimme, gimme, gimme!” She squealed in excitement.

“Yes. I just want you to know how proud I am of you. You work super hard, maintain this house, and still keep me satisfied. That deserves a li’l sumthin’, sumthin’.”

She pulled out a new Gucci handbag and jumped up and gave me a million kisses.

“You’re welcome, baby, now sit and eat your dinner.”

“Oh my goodness, baby, you are too good to me.”

“Well, who else is going to love you like I do?”

“Nobody,” she sang. That was our little inside joke.

“So, guess who called me today with some surprising news,” I said.

She swallowed. “Who, baby,” she said not taking her attention from her plate.

“Vince and I swear if you tell anybody what I’m about to tell you, I will kill you.”

“Dang Vic, calm down. You know our secrets are safe here. As a matter of fact, I have one I’ve been holding on to for weeks and I’m bursting to let it out.”

“What, baby?” I was now curious to know what she had, because Christina being pregnant and Vince not wanting the baby was headline news.

“Tamar is pregnant, baby. She is walking around in these tight-ass clothes trying to act as if she doesn’t have a baby bump in front of her, and everyone knows.”

I dropped my fork. “Tamar is what? And by who?” I had been hitting that on a regular. No way was she pregnant and no way could she be pregnant and not tell me first. More importantly, was it my baby? I tried to keep cool and hoped Brianna couldn’t see the panic on my face, because I knew I looked terrified.

“Pregnant, and by that in-and-out nigga, Tommy. I mean, I found out weeks ago when she was in the bathroom barfing up her guts. She tried to deny it, but I cornered her and she fessed up.”

“Well, I’ll be damned,” I said out loud.
